PERSICO - Unplugged
John
Persico is a solo
guitarist & singer. He performs live music in Restaurants, Nightclubs,
Lounges, Pubs, Bars & also for Private Parties.
Perfect for Happy Hours or late evening shows, John is a quality musician for
hire with reasonable rates and a cool playlist of tunes from the 1960's and
early 80's. John has over 30 years of live performing experience.
Last time I checked, the "Way Back Machine" was
still just an idea on the Rocky & Bullwinkle show. You can't just
shoot back in time and see those cartoons for the first time. You can't hear the
music those kids heard as they grew into teenagers with
the same fresh ears or perspective they had. Sure, you can catch a great
tribute band doing best of 70's, or sometimes see the real deals in all
their creaky glory. Both have their satisfactions but neither choice, it
seems, truly catches the complete flavor of a particular era. Portraying
and conveying a time and type of music is what John Persico does. The time
would be the mid-60's to the early 80's. The music
would be acoustic/rock, the cutting edge stuff that populated the blending of
rock, country, and folk music. This is the kind of music turned out by the
early Beatles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens and
many more.
John Persico uses a very discriminating
taste in selecting songs that might be best labeled as breakthrough songs,
many which may have had only limited commercial success but had a real
impact on either the times or the band performing the song. His decades as
a guitarist pay off in his arrangement and presentation of the wide-ranging
period tunes. A feat made more amazing in light of the fact that in many
of the originals there was a significant rock orientation.
His show is not truly a trip into the ÒWay
Back MachineÓ in the sense that Persico never feels wholly obligated to
mimic or affect the distinctive signature of the original artists.
Sadly, either due to time constraints or just because it's not his shtick,
John doesn't elaborate on the history of the tunes.
ÒHe's a traveling salesman for some
seminal rock history and he should come with a brochure.
But he doesn't.
He just comes with a guitar.Ó
